What Are You Thankful For?
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving!
The day when we get to stuff ourselves with turkey, dressing, and sweet potato casserole while being surrounded by family and friends. I honestly cannot think of anything better!
I love Thanksgiving for several reasons.
First, I get to visit with family who I don’t get to see that often.
Second, it means that Christmas is right around the corner.
Third, the food!!!
Fun fact: I actually love Thanksgiving food so much that I had it served at my wedding reception. My favorite? Sweet potato casserole!
I also enjoy the holiday because it gives me a chance to reflect on my many blessings.
When I think over the past year, I am astounded by all of the wonderful and exciting things that have happened in my life.
I published my second book, expanded my ministry, and even got an office downtown, received my very first guide dog, and best of all, married my best friend, Seth.
On the other hand, there have also been a lot of trials this year.
Seth and I both lost family members shortly before our wedding, we endured sickness, and I continued to face the daily trials of living with a disability.
Through all of the hardships and moments of happiness, however, I have continued to be amazed at God’s faithfulness.
This year, that is what I am most thankful for…
Merriam-Webster defines “faithful” as “Steadfast in affection or allegiance.”
In a world that is so unpredictable and ever-changing, it is comforting to know that we have a God who will always keep His promises.
No matter what we face, He will be there to provide us with…
Protection
“But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.”
(2 Thessalonians 3:3, ESV)
Compassion and Grace
“But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.”
(Psalm 86:15, ESV)
And, best of all…
Forgiveness for Our Sins and a New Life
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
(1 John 1:9, ESV)
This year, at the Thanksgiving table, I challenge you to reflect back not only on the good times but on the challenging ones as well.
Think about how God showed up for you during these trials and thank Him for His continued faithfulness.
Happy Thanksgiving!
