My Untold Sight Loss Journey - Part 4

My Untold Sight Loss Journey - Part 4

For this last untold story from my sight loss journey, we are stepping back in time to 2021.

This year was exciting and unbelievably happy for me.

In May, I got to marry the love of my life, Seth, on the most perfect day.

Then, in August, I kissed my new husband goodbye and flew to Michigan where I spent 3 weeks getting to know a new man…my guide dog, Jackson.

Jackson and I bonded quickly, and I had no doubt that he would be comfortable with me in Georgia.

What did make me a bit apprehensive, however, was how we would adjust to Seth.

On the day that Jackson and I flew home, Seth was working at a football game and would not arrive home until after midnight.

This only further complicated the situation.

Jackson would be in a new place, and then, just as he was getting settled in for his first night, a strange person would arrive.

Before leaving Michigan, I spoke with Jackson’s trainer about how to manage the predicament.

The solution, she explained, would be simple.

I should take Jackson out of his crate before Seth walked in the door, give Seth a handful of Jackson’s favorite treats, and let Seth win his trust.

I followed these instructions closely, and in less than a second, Jackson had gobbled up all the treats in Seth’s hand and was covering him in kisses and tail wags.

From that moment on, they were best friends!

It did not take much for Jackson to realize that Seth was someone he could trust, rely on, and love…just a few pats and a couple of delicious treats.

As I retell this story, I am struck by the fact that, as humans, it takes a whole lot more to earn the same favor.

Even with God, there are times that we do not trust His plan, His ways, or His promises…especially when life is not going our way.

Christ, however, has given us so much more than a handful of goodies and a pat on the head.

He has offered us salvation, hope, and a glorious eternal home.

What will it take for you to fully and truly trust God today?

I pray that you have enjoyed reading these stories from my sight loss journey. They have been simple, but each one has taught me important lessons about Christ.

I invite you to look at some of the moments in your life today and examine all the diverse ways that God has His hand in every second of them.

2022 is still young, and I cannot wait to see how God works through the days to come!
