What is the Belt of Truth?
“Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.” (Ephesians 6:14-15, ESV)
As a typical girl, my clothing has always been important to me.
Since losing my sight, I had to discover a different way to enjoy the garments other than visually.
Today, when I am picking out clothes, I rely mostly on textures, but I also have learned to attach memories and mental images to my clothing as well.
Whether the particular article of clothing is a sweatshirt from a family trip, a dress bought for a special occasion, or a gift given to me by a loved one, each piece begins to take on its own meaning.
The Armor of God is similar.
Each piece represents an aspect of Christianity with which God has equipped us.
While the pieces each have their own unique meaning, their purpose is the same:
To sustain and strengthen us through the trials and spiritual warfare we are bound to face.
The Belt of Truth…
I don’t know of a more truthful article of clothing than the belt.
If we have become a little lazy and eaten a few too many cookies, that belt will surely let us know!
It is also a foundational garment, something that many of us wear every day, with the job of holding everything in, up, and together.
One of the biggest ways in which the enemy tries to wage war against us and our faith is through lies. He tells us that we are not worthy, not smart enough, pretty enough, or successful enough.
In order to combat these lies, we have to stay belted in truth…and that truth is Jesus Christ.
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.’” (John 14:6, ESV)
Jesus proved, by His sacrifice for us on the cross, that we are worthy, loved, and precious. We are worth dying for!
This truth is bigger and more powerful than any of the lies that the devil can tell us.
What is the enemy lying to you about today?
Here is a great way to strap on your own belt of truth so that you can overcome those lies when they try to creep in…
Jot down some scriptures about Christ and His love for you. Stick them in your pocket so that you can take a peek at the truth whenever you feel those deceitful thoughts beginning to take hold.
